Even today "The Hit" is still considered one of the most violent and vicious hits in football history a drive-ending play that cemented a 17-10 Eagles victory over the New York Giants. Late in the game in the midst of a potential game-tying drive Giants' star halfback Frank Gifford ran across the middle catching a pass from Y.A. Tittle and heading for the sidelines to stop the clock. On his way he was met by Hall of Fame linebacker Chuck Bednarik who leveled Gifford with one of the most famous tackles in history. The tackle knocked Gifford unconscious and jarred the ball loose cementing the Eagles' win while the Hall of Fame halfback was carried off the field. As a result he was sidelined for the entirety of the 1961 season. Fifty years later "the hit" is still one of the NFL's ultimate highlights: Click here to view a highlight video of the play. Presented is an intact program from the game when Bednarik applied the famous tackle. In apparent VG/EX condition the program retains cover wear consistent with being at one point rolled up and inserted into a pocket. However the resulting wear is minor and does not interfere with the presentation or visual appeal of the program which has long flattened out and lost most traces of folds unless viewed up close. The display quality of the piece is exceptional the saddle-stitched binding intact and the pages still sturdy. An exceptional document from the game known for one of the NFL's most memorable plays.
