Outstanding midgrade Hall of Fame specimen from this rare 32-card set issued by the Boston, MA confectioner.  The set contained 16 subjects each from the American and National Leagues, part of a promotion where youngsters could complete sets and then redeem them for prizes.  The company would then cancel the cards (with a hole punch or by clipping the bottom third of the card), and then return the cards to the collector with their prize.  Due to the company's regional distribution, these cards are far more scarce than their Goudey or National Chicle counterparts.  Additionally, the prevalence of cancelled cards makes uncancelled examples all the more scarce.  The cards are traditionally found at the very low end of the grading scale when uncancelled - cards in EX-MT condition or better are virtually nonexistent.  Presented here is an attractive example, slightly off-center (as is the case with virtually all examples from the issue), with light corner wear and even toning.  Seldom-seen in any grade, PSA has graded just 29 uncancelled Maranville cards, just eight of which have graded higher than this.
