The 1954 Topps issue was the company's first to employ two different pictures of each subject on the card front, an oversized portrait dominating the majority of the card, with a smaller, "action" shot superimposed near the lower corner.  Each card also included a team logo.  The set's distinctive design remains attractive to collectors today, with a color background that is (in most cases) framed on three sides by white borders.  The cards' larger size makes them susceptible to a variety of wear-related condition issues, and they are notoriously difficult to find properly centered.  Most important, however, is the inclusion of several key rookie cards, notably Ernie Banks, Al Kaline, Tommy Lasorda, and, of course, Hank Aaron.  Several of the cards from the issue, led by Aaron by also paced by cards of Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, two Ted Williams cards, Kaline and Banks are currently escalating in price, the value driving the entire set northward at a rapid rate.  The set presented here is at the lower end of the grade spectrum, complete at 4% VG, 15% G, 44% FAIR, 36% POOR and a few trimmed.  Many creases, significant edge wear, and in some cases writing directly on the card fronts are the primary condition issues.  Still, in any grade, a complete 1954 Topps set is desirable, and loaded with important cards.  

We selected four cards to submit to SGC for grading, a fifth came already graded with the set (by PSA).  Those cards grade as follows: #1 Williams (SGC FR 1.5), #10 Robinson (SGC PR 1), #94 Banks (SGC GOOD 2), #128 Aaron (SGC PR 1), and #250 Williams (PSA VG 3).  The remaining keys grade as follows: #2 Irvin P, #17 Rizzuto G, #20 Spahn P, #30 Mathews P, #32 Snider F, #36 Wilhelm P, #37 Ford G, #45 Ashbirn P, #50 Berra F, #70 Doby F, #90 Mays F (trimmed), #132 Lasorda P, #187 Manush VG, and #201 Kaline F.  250 cards total
