Stunning 12" x 10" cabinet photograph featuring the 1895 Peekskill Military Academy baseball team. The PMA (1833-1968) was located in Peekskill, NY along the Hudson River, roughly 45 miles north of New York City (NFL fans may be familiar with Peekskill as the summer training home for the NY Jets during the 1960's). Based on other examples of PMA photos that have surfaced, Pach Bros. were the photographer of choice for the school from the 1880's until approx. 1891 when local photographer H.H. Pierce took on the duties. This mounted, sepia toned photo from H.H. Pierce's studio is quite clearly the work of a well seasoned professional of the day shooting with high-quality equipment. Mount exhibits mild soiling with what appears to be the team roster written in fountain pen on verso. Both "H.H. Pierce - Photo" and "Peekskill, NY" have been pressed into the mount below the bottom corners of the photo.
