As prices for the 1952 Topps #311 Mantle continue their astronomical ascent, prices of other early mainstream Mantle cards follow, the rising tide lifting all boats, as the saying goes. The 1953 Topps #82 Mantle has finally begun to find its foothold in the hobby, as one of the most beautiful and highly sought-after cards of the Commerce Comet. Collectors have begun to appreciate the sharpness of the image, and the difficulty of finding well-centered examples with a minimum of chipping along the bottom border of the card. This example is a wonderful specimen, graded EX 5 by PSA due largely to light corner wear and a barely noticeable top-to-bottom centering issue. The image quality is outstanding, however, with minimal chipping in the red border area, and left-to-right centering uncharacteristically strong for the issue.
