Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971 "The Dutchman" was a nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback winning NFL championships with the Rams and Eagles. One of the greatest stars of the 1950s Van Brocklin later became head coach of the expansion Minnesota Vikings. This card is also the #1 card in the 1952 Bowman Large set making it highly desirable in high grades. According to collecting lore the first and last card of any vintage set eventually become a condition rarity due to young collectors' penchant for tying together their cards with rubber bands and the top and bottom cards becoming damaged due to exposure. In addition the card is a short print adding to its scarcity. Add to this the extra desirability of the card's featuring a Hall of Fame quarterback and we have a "perfect storm" of collecting with this card being one of the most difficult cards to find in high grade.
