The only example of this 13 3/4" x 20 1/4" full-color poster that we have ever seen sold at auction more than a decade ago to collector Ted Patterson and offered again here featuring Cleveland Indians pitcher and Hall of Famer Bob Lemon in full uniform standing and holding a handsome bicycle. The poster does not advertise the bike it advertises New Departure Safety Brakes a brand of bicycle brakes manufactured by General Motors and advertised in the mid-1950s. Part of a series of posters many of which featured children or pinup-style models riding a variety of bicycles this is the only example we have found that features a celebrity endorser. The other posters we have found from this campaign measure 14 x 20 1/2" so it is quite possible that some of this poster has been carefully trimmed. The presentation is strong with creases where the poster was once folded into quarters and some light foxing and soiling near the bottom. The poster has been carefully mounted against a red background and framed to a finished size of approximately 17" x 24" with some age-related nicks to the frame. The poster has come loose inside the frame once held in place by four clear photo corners some of which appear to have become detached. Still a strong presentation of an attractive seldom-seen poster.
I have one to sell!
