Much has been made of Ted Patterson's extensive collection particularly the uniforms and caps that he obtained directly from players. As an announcer for the Baltimore Orioles Ted's clubhouse access gave brought him close to the players over the period of several decades during which time he amassed an exceptional collection of game-worn caps most signed by players and then tucked away among the clothes racks Ted used to store and display his collection. Presented here is a grouping of 17 Baltimore Orioles caps each authenticated by MEARS with a LOA accompanying each cap. The seasons the caps were used run between 1982 and 2010. Collection includes the following: 1) 1982-84 Al Bumbry: Well-worn cap used by the popular Orioles centerfielder signed on the brum. Very heavy wear is evident the brim is cracked and there is actually signs of mold on the interior of the cap it is so heavily stained and worn. 2) 1982-84 Gene Woodling Post-Career Cap: One size fits all cap likely used at an Old Timer event or something of that nature. Very light wear Woodling's name and number 14 written on the inner brim. 3) 1985-87 Don Aase: Heavily-used "smiling Oriole" design worn in the 1985-87 time frame by the O's pitcher. The number 41 has been handwritten on the inner brim. 4) 1989 Gregg Olson: Attractive black cap with orange bird design Olson's number and signature appear on the inner brim along with the year. Evidence of heavy use. 5) 1991-95 Leo Gomez: Uniform number 10 and "GoGo" written on the inner brim along with Gomez' signature. Light use some mild staining on the inner sweatband. 6) 1994-96 Jeffrey Hammonds: Black cap with orange bird exhibits heavy use with significant staining around the sweatband. Uniform number 11 appears on the inner brim as does Hammonds' signature. 7) 1994-96 #47 Cap (Lee Smith (1994) or Jesse Orosco (1995-96): Either player could have worn this size 7 1/4 cap which exhibits moderate signs of wear - The Hall of Famer Smith or the excellent reliver Orosco both played with Baltimore during the period this cap design was used. Use is moderate with light wear throughout. 8) 1995 Chuck Cottier: Heavily-worn cap exhibits significant staining on the brim and sweatband Cattier's signature and uniform number appearing at the inner brim. 9) 1996 Rocky Coppinger: Attractive black cap with orange bird Coppinger's uniform number 27 written on the inner brim in black marker. Coppinger also signed the inner brim. Significant staining and soiling visible on the interior of the cap. 10) 1999 Jerry Hairston Jr.: Black cap size 7 1/8 signed on the interior brim.
