Stunning example of outfielder Jimmy Barrett at 27 years old in his fourth major league season and third with the Tigers. A .300 hitter for the first five seasons of his career (he hit .293 in 1901 so not quite .300) the popular centerfielder and leadoff hitter twisted his knee early in the 1905 season the knee continuing to give out throughout the season. Eventually the Tigers were forced to call up well another centerfielder and he turned out to be pretty good. While Barrett sat out the 1906 season young Ty Cobb became a fixture in center going forward Barrett never really recovering. The card has been graded FR 1.5 by SGC but appears far sttronger closer to EX/MT. The remnants of four decals on the reverse as well as some paper loss at the bottom-right corner are responsible for the grade. An outstanding example of "buy the card not the holder " one of the most visually appealing collector grade W600 cards we have encountered.
