Exceptional Detroit Tigers cap manufactured by Tim McAuliffe a navy blue cap with an orange "D". The well-worn cap has been signed by Tigers Hall of Famer George Kell though it is not likely that the cap was actually worn by the popular player. The number 21 has been written on the underside of the brim but Kell switched his uniform number from 21 to 7 in the 1951 season the earliest year that the Tigers' hats featured the Old English "D" in orange. As such the cap is a game-worn official Tigers cap exhibiting considerable wear visible in the form of tears at the brim and significant wear to the inner band. However despite the authenticity of the cap it was not worn by Kell. From the collection of Ted Patterson. EDIT: The language in the above description is not particularly clear with respect to where the placement of the number "21" is found. It is not on the underside of the BRIM it is on the underside of the cap ABOVE the brim on the inside front panel of the cap. The number is not visible in the photo but it is there approximately 3/4" in height.
