The 1951 Bowman set is possibly second only to the 1952 Topps issue for the most important and widely-collected issue of the 1950s. In addition to the rookie cards of both Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays the issue includes the rookie card of Whitey Ford Nellie Fox and Monte Irvin as well as cards of important Hall of Famers Yogi Berra Roy Campanella Duke Snider Pee Wee Reese Phil Rizzuto and Ted Williams. Presented here is a near-complete midgrade set missing just the cards of Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays for completion. The Mantle and Mays are being offered as individual lots elsewhere in the auction. The set itself is exceptional a strong midgrade set assembled by a collector with a strong emphasis on eye appeal that exceeds the technical grade of the card. The set breaks down at 2% EX/MT or better 25% EX; 45% VG/EX; 24% VG; 3% G and a few lesser. A breakdown of the key cards is as follows: #1 Ford F; #2 Berra VG; #3 Roberts VG; #10 Schoendienst VG; #26 Rizzuto VG; #30 Feller VG/EX (autographed in blue Sharpie); #31 Campanella VG; #32 Snider G; #46 Kell VG; #50 Mize VG; #53 Lemon VG/EX; #58 Slaughter VG/EX; #62 Boudreau VG; #78 Wynn VG/EX; #80 Reese VG/EX; #134 Spahn G; #151 Doby EX; #165 Williams VG+; #181 Stengel VG/EX; #186 Ashburn VG; #198 Irvin VG; #201 Southworth EX; #233 Durocher VG/EX; #282 Frisch VG/EX; #290 Dickey VG/EX #295 Lopez VG/EX. An outstanding midgrade example of a highly-desirable 1951 Bowman set missing just two cards for completion each available elsewhere in this auction. 324 cards total.
