1940 Schmidt's Beer calendar advertisement featuring Charles Gehringer in a number of portrait and action poses. Billed as "America's Finest Beer " Gehringer was presented as "Baseball's finest second baseman " which he likely was. At the bottom of the 13" x 20" display is a calendar featuring the major league baseball schedule; pages were intended to be removed each month to reveal the following month's game schedule. This piece exhibits significant fading and wear along with heavy restoration and inpainting to repair tears and enhance images. The inpainting impacts perhaps 20% of the piece in some cases obscuring photographic images. The entire piece has been dry mounted to a foamcore backing preventing us from examining the reverse and determining how severe the tearing is. The piece was originally sold by us unframed in our Spring 2018 auction and has been subsequently re-consigned in this attractive frame. Condition is something less than poor given the restoration work offered here because it is such a unique piece regardless of the large amount of work done on it.
