Exceptional postcard featuring the Ostego (Michigan) Baseball Club of 1913 as taken by A.L. Faiver. The Ostego team was owned by millionaire Tom Stephens who often brought in ringers from the majors to play in local games. Even Ty Cobb played a game with the Ostego club paid nearly half his annual salary for one game. At first glance the postcard appears to be a typical team postcard featuring a well-equipped local team (the uniforms are the tipoff as they are identical as are the players' socks typically a sign of a well-funded well-organized team. A closer look however yields a hilarious twist: at least four of the subjects in the photo are flashing money at the camera! Clearly an inside joke aimed at the team's well-paid ringers. Ed Killian is pictured in the top row far left. George Mullin appears in suspenders and a tie in the foreground. We believe Frank Bowerman is in uniform above Mullin's shoulder. There are likely other "ringers" int he photo as well. The postcard grades VG/EX with some corner wear and light toning on the reverse. An extremely interesting and somewhat humorous postcard.
