I have one to sell!
1960 letter written by Lee MacPhail then with the Baltimore Orioles to Buzzie Bavasi which accompanied a $1 000 check that was payment for William Lajoie part of the deal that brought Jim Gentile to the Orioles. Gentile played four seasons in Baltimore and was a smash having an MVP-caliber season with a .302 batting average 46 home runs and 141 RBI - MVP caliber in any season except the season he did it which was 1961. Bill Lajoie despite having an outstanding baseball name never made it beyond AAA ball. The letter exhibits some minor age-related discoloration along with a tear at the upper-left where a staple was clearly torn away - likely the $1 000 check was stapled to the letter and if I got a letter from Lee MacPhail with a $1 000 check in 1960 I would likely rip that check off the letter carelessly as well. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
