Strong collection of eight official Polo Grounds scorecards from the 1940s New York Giants. Collection includes: 1) 1940 Scorecard: Scored crudely in ink the unorthodox method of scoring makes it difficultt to date the game though the opponent was the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hall of Famers listed in the scorecard include Bill Terry Travis Jackson Mel Ott Carl Hubbell Bill Klem Paul Waner Lloyd Waner Honus Wagner Frankie Frisch and Arky Vaughan. Fair condition with paper loss at the spine and some corner clips significant separation at the spine and a large tear on the back cover. 2) 1941 Scorecard:Unscored game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Hall of Famers listed in the scorecard include Chuck Klein Mel Ott and Carl Hubbell. EX/MT condition. 3) 1942 Scorecard: Unscored game against the Cincinnati Reds. Hall of Famers listed in the scorecard include Bill McKechnie Mel Ott Johnny Mize and Carl Hubbell. EX condition with some wear at the spine and discoloration of the interior score page. 4) 1943 Scorecard: Unscored game against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Hall of Famers listed in the scorecard include Paul Waner Leo Durocher Arky Vaughan Mel Ott Joe Gordon Joe Medwick Ernie Lombardi and Carl Hubbell. EX condition with some light staining to the scorecard page. 5) 1944 Scorecard: Unscored game against the Chicago Cubs. Hall of Famers listed include Jimmie Foxx Joe Medwick Mel Ott and Ernie Lombardi. Fair condition with a split at the spine on all pages near the bottom a lower-left corner clip and a long-ago flattened fold down the center. 6) 1945 Scorecard: Scored game from June 17 1945 the second game of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. Won by the Phillies 6-2 though not a crisp game by either team. Scored and heavily notated in pencil significant pencil staining on the scorecard page but otherwise strong with Hall of Famers Jimmie Foxx Chuck Klein Mel Ott and Ernie Lombardi appearing in the scorecard. 7) 1946 Scorecard: Scored game from a 5-2 win over Brooklyn on August 6. Hall of Famers in the scorecard include Leo Durocher Joe Medwick Pee Wee Reese (written in) Mel Ott and Ernie Lombardi. Some splitting at the spine and mild toning throughout erased pencil writing on the cover. 8) 1947 Scorecard: 9-5 Giants win over the Brooklyn Dodgers on June 29 a slugfest that saw home runs by Eddie Stanky (Brooklyn) Sid Gordon Willard Marshall and Johnny Mize (New York). Noteworthy because it comes from the rookie season of Jackie Robinson the Dodgers first baseman went 4-for-5 in the game with an RBI and two stolen bases. Surface abrasions and minor discoloration is evident on the cover. E
