Spectacular high-grade Old Judge featuring the "Boston Strong Boy " John L. Sullivan. In 1889 Sullivan knocked out Jake Kilrain to win the heavyweight championship in round 75 of an 80-round bare knuckle fight and was one of the first sporting events in the country to receive national press. The fight was the last championship bare-knuckle fight. The Massachussets native was part of the International Boxing Hall of Fame's inaugural class. Boasting sharp corners with only light touches the card appears virtually new with clean borders and sharp edges a crisp image with above-average contrast and some very minor foxing on the reverse. SGC has graded no other example of this card higher than EX/NM; PSA's highest-graded example also rests at the EX-MT level. This is the sole example at this grade by either company with none higher; the finest example of the era's greatest boxer. An outstanding card certainly one of the keys to the issue.
