Issued by Dan-Dee Potato Chips in 1954 these cards are extremely condition sensitive the waxy coating of the cards not fending off the potato grease that so often stains them. A tough regional issue that is a challenge to complete this particular set was assembled ungraded years ago by supercollector Ted Patterson who did not have a single graded card in his collection. While it is unknown precisely when he completed the set Ted completed many of his sets in the year of issue which could well have been the case here. We submitted the cards to PSA for grading and two - Monte Irvin (HOF) and Max Surkont - were returned ungraded with a "Miscut" designation. The remaining 27 cards attained a grade high enough to rank the set at #11 on the PSA Set Registry despite being incomplete. A complete breakdown of the graded cards is as follows: PSA EX-MT 6 (3 cards): Al Lopez (HOF) George Strickland Wally Westlake; PSA EX 5 (5 cards): Hank Bauer Larry Doby (HOF) Bob Friend Mike Garcia Paul LaPalm; PSA VG-EX 4 (5 cards): Bob Avila Gil Hodges Bob Lemon (HOF) Paul Smith Frank Thomas; PSA VG-EX 4Q (1 card): Curtis Roberts; PSA VG 3 (5 cards): Walker Cooper Luke Easter Phil Rizzuto (HOF) Al Rosen Red Schoendienst (HOF); PSA GOOD 2 (4 cards): Jim Hegan Dale Mitchell Duke Snider (HOF) Early Wynn (HOF); PSA FR 1.5 (3 cards): Bob Feller (HOF) Sid Gordon Mickey Mantle; PSA PR 1 (1 card): Art Houtteman. An exceptional card with each of the 27 graded cards having been submitted by us their first time ever in graded holders. 29 cards total.
