The 1963 Fleer issue was the company's first attempt at issuing baseball cards of current players; a lawsuit from Topps stopped the production of the set at one series of 67 cards. It would be 18 years before the company would produce another set of current players. Ths 1963 issue features a clean elegant design and sharp color photography but the design is often marred by poor quality control with respect to centering. Presented here is an attractive highger-grade complete set. Assembled carefully by a dedicated collector the key cards all professionally graded (all but one by PSA). While we would assess the ungraded cards at a slightly lower level than the graded ones due primarily to centering with a few examples exhibiting lightly touched or softer corners. The set grades as follows: 8% NM-MT; 31% NM; 47% EX-MT; and 14% EX or lesser with the likelihood of a few trimmed. There have been 18 cards professionally graded as follows: 1) GAI MINT 9 (1 card): #8 Yastrzemsk (HOF); 2) PSA NM-MT 8 (6 cards): #18 Lee; #37 Aspromonte; #46 Adcock; #45 Spahn (HOF); #54 Mahaffey; #56 Clemente (HOF); 3) PSA NM-MT 8 (Q) (2 cards): #41 Drysdale (HOF); #42 Koufax (HOF); 4) PSA NM 7 (5 cards): #4 B. Robinson (HOF); #6 Clinton; #25 Richardson; #61 Gibson (HOF); #64 Cepeda (HOF); 5) PSA EX-MT 6 (2 cards): #5 Mays (HOF); #32 Santo (HOF); 6) PSA EX-MT 6 (Q) (2 cards): #43 Wills; Checklist. 67 cards total.
