One of the more important Hall of Famers in the T206 issue Addie Joss was beloved during his playing days and the story of his sudden and early passing has made him a favorite among collectors today. During his playing days Joss was also well-loved as a sportswriter serving as sports columnist and editor for the Toledo News-Bee and for the Cleveland Press. Joss also designed an electric scoreboard (known as the Joss Indicator) that was installed at League Park in Cleveland. In 1911 Joss contracted tuberculosis meningitis and passed away. Teammates and friends helped organize a benefit game - the first "All Star" game - and raised $13 000 to help Joss' family members to pay his medical bills. In 1977 the Hall of Fame waived the eligibility requirement for Joss and he was elected in 1978. Today Joss is the only member of the Hall to have played fewer than ten seasons. The card itself is a very attractive and well-centered example graded EX 5 by SGC with light wear visible primarily at the top corners. Clean bold image with some minor wear at the top border.
