Important card from a very curious issue distributed in 1910 on candy boxes manufactured by the Geo. Davis Co and the P.R. Warren Co. The box indicated that the set featured 144 subjects but just a few dozen have been discovered as of today. The cards are called "orange borders" by collectors today because the player images were surrounded by orange border however the "borders" were simply part of the box - so there is no true border definition. This example has been graded EX 5 by SGC despite uneven cutting precisely for that reason - in the absence of defined borders one must examine the image clarity and surface wear and in this case both are excellent. Interestingly SGC's populations only tally four cards at the EX level among all 130 examples of the issue they have graded along with one EX/MT a testament to the condition sensitivity of the issue. This example features the 1909 American League champion Detroit Tigers including Hall of Famers Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford.
