I have one to sell!
Studio cabinet photo dating to 1888-89 picturing Jimmy Cooney then with the Omaha Omahogs of the Western Association who were managed by Hall of Famer Frank Selee. Cooney played with Omaha for two seasons before joining the 1890 Chicago Colts playing shortstop in the same infield as Cap Anson. Cooney's major league career lasted until 1892 after which he had a lengthy run with the Providence Clamdiggers/Grays of the Eastern League. Attractive cabinet was produced by the Heyn studio of Omaha and pictures Cooney in his striped Omaha jersey and pillbox hat. The lines on the hat appear to have been outlined perhaps to strengthen the image for newspaper publication or possibly just because photographers occasionally did this sort of thing to enhance their own photos. The cabinet suffers from overall surface wear and a stray ink mark on the front some light water staining at the bottom corners also evident. The reverse displays numerous pencil and ink notations along with the Sporting News Collection hologram decal all over the ornate Heyn Studio advertisement.
