Spectacular pair of supplements highlighted by Pittsburgh manager and Hall of Famer Fred Clarke. Taken in 1906 and distributed in a publication called The Index these are two in a series of supplements featuring photographs of individual Pittsburgh Pirates. Photography is credited to "D-Rosser " a prominent photographer in the Pittsburgh area around the turn of the century. Each of the two supplements have been mounted onto a sheet of scrapbook paper measuring approximately 13" x 17 1/2". The supplement featuring Fred Clarke (HOF) is entirely intact surrounded by newspaper clippings likely from the same publication. Pencil notations are evident on the piece around the edges and at the bottom. Additional Pittsburgh Pirates-related clippings are apparent on the reverse. The supplement featuring Deacon Philippe is also intact that it has been colored around the border in gold paint. Similarly the supplement is surrounded in its page with more baseball-related clippings also affixed to the entire reverse. Two rare barely-known supplements from The Index just the third small grouping of supplements we have seen all three of which have been featured in our auctions.
