Spectacular high-grade rookie card of St. Louis Cardinals hero and well-known nice guy Stan Musial. Graded NM 7 by PSA the cord exhibits a clean surface strong edges and corners and outstanding print registration for the issue all combining to make a clean and colorful card. The card is an extraordinarily attractive one light corner touches and centering likely keeping the card from a higher technical grade and yet still a strong specimen. While Musial did have several less mainstream issues released prior to 1948 his Bowman and Leaf cards of that year are often described as his "rookie" cards. Of course by 1948 Musial had already played six seasons of Major League ball led the league in batting average wtice and in hits three times and actually missed a season due to military service. Despite this his 1948 season was a breakout one as he won his third MVP award but reached career highs in batting average (.376) on base percentage (.450) home runs (39) and RBI (131) along with hits (230) and runs (135). 1948 was truly a Monster season for Musial. Stan Muslal is one of the underrated greats of the game. A 24-time All-Star he was a three-time MVP but finished second in the viting four more times in his career despite having a career that overlapped witih greats like DiMaggio Williams Mantle Aaron and Mays. His lifetime batting average of .331 ranks #30 all-time and for more analytic-minded fans his career WAR ranks #8 with only Bonds Ruth Mays Cobb Aaron Speaker and Wagner ranking ahead of him. That is some exceptional company. A tremendous card a high-grade specimen that has been tucked away in a private collection since being purchased at a major hobby auction three years ago a fine example.
