Clean retail countertop display intended to feature 1952 Star-Cal Type 1 and Type 2 decals. The second such display and corresponding envelope we have handled it is apparent that retailers could order displays that were entirely merchandised with decals from a single team as the envelope is factory stamped "Brooklyn Dodgers." Measuring 13 1/4" x 21 1/4" the display includes die-cut slots into which nine or ten decals could be inserted with the Type 1 decals costing 15 cents and the Type 2 decals costing a dime. This particular example is sturdy and intact some visible creasing evident near more vulnerable areas where the die-cut slots end; it seems natural that in a retail environment the simple process of adding and removing decals to the slots would cause such creasing. One pronounced crease runs left to right across the top of the display visible but unobtrusive. Some minor foxing is evident on the reverse the cardboard easel back intact and strong the word "Giants" written on the easel in black ink. Two years ago we featured a completely-merchandised Star-Cal display in our auction an early consignment from Ted Patterson which sold for $9 000. While that display was completely stocked with ten decals of New York Yankees players some percentage of the realized price was due to the pure scarcity of the retail display. This example is in far stronger condition than that only the second such display we have handled and clearly the finer of the two. An extremely scarce display an outstanding companion to a difficult and desirable issue.
