The 1951 World Series once again matched up the New York Yankees with the crosstown Giants fresh off their thrilling three-game playoff with the Brooklyn Dodgers - the closest the league had ever gotten to a three-team Subway Subway Subway Series. Both teams featured exciting young rookie outfielders - Mickey Mantle for the Yankees and Rookie of the Year winner Willie Mays of the Giants. Mantle would of course injure his knee in an infamous fall during Game 2 sidelining him for the remainder of the series and causing knee damage that would hound him for the rest of his career. Game 1 however would see Mantle starting in right field for the Yankees and hitting leadoff while Mays played center and hig seventh for the Giants. The definition of "anticlimactic " the two future Hall of Famers would combine to go 0-for-8 the Giants winning the game 5-1. This outstanding full ticket has been graded VG 3 by PSA with some overall wear most notably at the perforation and right edge. Display characteristics are strong the ticket retaining strong color and only light surface wear consistent with the grade. An outstanding milestone ticket the first World Series game of two of the most legendary players in baseball history.
