Interesting 6 5/8" x 9" card featuring an image of English bare knuckle boxer and eventual referee Sam Blakelock. The reverse includes an advertisement for a quarterly $2 000 sweepstakes held by the William S. Kimball & Co. tobacco company. Customers redeeming certificates ppackaged with Kimball cigarettes were eligible for both cash rebates and entry into the sweepstakes which paid a total of $2 000 in prizes each quarter the highest of which was a $100 reward. The piece is in VG condition with minor wear throughout mostly in the form of edge and corner wear consistent with its age. Remarkably scarce very little is available online about this piece an outstanding example of early tobacco advertising.
