Fascinating issue discovered in the Albany area. Little is known about the cards though there are some theories that they were distributed as part of a candy issue or even as giveaways to children as part of some local election. Regardless they are extremely rare - one of the first things we do prior to writing an auction description is to research our own auction history for information we've already dug up on an issue. After seven years and nearly 20 000 auction items sold we've discovered one thing: we've never sold a Lections card before! This example is one of two Lections cards featuring Bob Meusel in the auction graded AUTHENTIC by SGC as is the case of eight of the 50 different cards from the issue that they have graded. As with many of the surviving examples the card is extremely worn and riddled with hole punches. This example features green printing (others from the set including another Meusel in this auction are printed with red ink). Significantly worn it is important to note that Lections cards are virtually all low grade - of the 50 graded by SGC 36 are graded either AUTHENTIC or POOR with only six above VG. PSA has graded an additional 30 cards from the set 14 of which are AUTHENTIC or POOR. Lections cards above the lowest grade are simply not found in the hobby with any type of regularity. Based on that this example is actually one of the more attractive surviving examples.
