Spectacular Wilson Official Interscholastic League baseball signed by 17 members of the 1944 U.S. 7th Army/Air Force baseball team. The signatures are extremely light with DiMaggio on the sweet spot but many of the others illegible. DiMaggio enlisted in the US Army on February 17 1943 assigned to Special Services and stationed at the Santa Ana Air Base in California. Along with many other ballplayers he was transferred to Hawaii and joined the 7th Army Air Force team. The 1944 team also included Hall of Famers Red Ruffing and Joe Gordon (though neither player signed this baseball). Signatures on the ball include Ferris Fain Bob Dillinger Dario Lodigiani Gerry Priddy Charlie Silvera Walt Judnich Rugger Ardizoia Mike McCormick along with several others illegible. The ball was found as part of an inheritance that included a number of baseball-relalted items. While the ball itself is relatively clean the signatures have faded significantly with many illegible. The signature of DiMaggio is unmistakeable despite the fading. An incredible piece not only of baseball history but of American history. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
