The 1952 Topps issue is of course the most popular and highly coveted postwar set in all of collecting. The legend that all collectors have heard many times is that at the end of the season when the second series of cards had been issued collector demand diminished as youngsters began to move from baseball cards to football. As a result not only were there fewer cards from the second series sold but that Topps dumped cases of unused cards - including countless Mickey Mantles - into the sea. While the "dumped in the ocean" story has since been questioned the demand for the second series of cards remains high as the "high number" series cards are the most valuable - and considered the most scarce - of all high number series cards issued by Topps. Presented here is a collection of ten collector-grade cards each from the "high number" series of 1952 Topps. We have submitted all ten cards to SGC for evaluation. The results are as follows: SGC VG/EX 4 (1 card): #375 Jack Merson; SGC GD+ 2.5 (1 card): #331 Tom Morgan; SGC GOOD 2 (1 card): #331 Tom Morgan; SGC FR 1.5 (3 cards): #351 Al Dark #354 Fred Hatfield #376 Faye Throneberry; SGC PR 1 (2 cards): #396 Dick Williams (HOF); #398 Hal Rice; SGC AUTHENTIC (2 cards): #386 Eddie Yuhas; #389 Ben Wade. The cards are all strong for the grade the primary condition flaws related to clear tape visible on the front or back of the card. A collection of ten cards from the 1952 Topps "high number" series.
