According to the indispensable book The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company (1886-1890) (Miller Gonsowski and Masson) Hall of Fame pitcher Charles "Hoss" Radbourn is one of the more difficult Hall of Famers to obtain in the N173 Old Judge cabinet issue. This studio cabinet was produced by the W.A. Stratton studio of Boston and features one of the desirable "dual-player" images this one depicting Radbourn tagging his teammate Billy Nash. The image would become the card that is currently checklisted as card #377-2 but is a far more clear and detailed specimen than most N172 cards. The card is quite pleasing boasting excellent clarity and image contrast the 1888 copyright date and attribution to Goodwin & Co visible just above Nash Radbourn's name position and team affiliation elegantly typeset into the foreground of the image. Some mild surface wear is evident throughout though nothing that would detract from the overall visual appeal of the piece. Some very minor surface abrasions are visible on the reverse mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. N173 cabinets of Radbourn particularly difficult to find - the only example of a publically sold N173 Radbourn that we can uncover was a $19 000 sale of a single-player image two years ago. An outstanding desirable studio cabinet featuring a dual-player image of one of the era's most sought-after subjects.
