Spectacular 1902 Sporting Life complete portfolio. 13" x 14" original album with its original string binding containing all 11 W601 Sporting Life composites. The first such set issued by the company each of the 11 supplements featuring a different league's 1902 Championship team including the American League (Philadelphia) the National League (Pittsburgh) the New York State League (Albany) The Pacific Northwest League (Butte) The American Association (Indianapolis) The Western League (Kansas City) the New England League (Manchester) the Southern League (Nashville) The Connecticut League (New Haven) the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League (Rockford) and the Eastern League (Toronto). Hall of Famers are certainly well-represented within the pages beginning right off the top with a young Honus Wagner Fred Clarke Jack Chesbro and Fred Clarke but also Connie Mack Eddie Plank Rube Waddell Kid Nichols (manager of the Kansas City Blue Stockings). Many other players are included who spent time in the major leagues and are featured in our baseball card collections but equally notable are those who aren't; career minor leaguers who were featured in a Sporting Life supplement with their teammates. The portfolio is in fair condition at best though entirely intact and sturdy. The right corners have become detached over the years and the corresponding upper corner on the reverse is missing as well. Some sort of water staining is prevalent on the top left and bottom right corners. The staining has come through to the supplements themselves; just the last few pages are not affected. The outer corners of the supplements have also become clipped over the years. The grommets and overall image quality aside from the aforementioned staining however are strong. An incredibly scarce portfolio certainly the only one we have ever handled the very first complete set of W601 Sporting Life composites in their original portfolio.
