Spectacular high grade cabinet photo of Gus Weyhing from the Gilbert & Bacon issue. Many ofhe Gilbert & Bacon studio photos were used for the N172 Old Judge issue; this photo was used for card #491-3 of the star pitcher. Gus Weyhling is perhaps one of the most underrated figures of the era; he won 30 games four consecutive seasons and won 20 or better every year from 1887 to 1893. Not a control pitcher he also drilled 30 batters or more in four different seasons and even today holds the lifetime record with 277 hit batsmen. The photo itself is in outstanding condition some light soiling visible on the mount. The image of Wehying is clear with excellent contrast the detail in his uniform simply tremendous.
