The grade of VG/EX 4 while technically accurate does not do justice to this card. Beautiful from top to bottom with a clear image and rich black borders a tad of excess chipping and rounding at the upper-right prevents the card from attaining a higher technical grade. Regardless sharp edges and square corners suggest something higher; this must certainly be the finest VG/EX Delehanty in the hobby. One of the most desirable of all 19th Century baseball card subjects the mystery of Delahanty's death certainly adds to his legend. His talent however was tremendous; hitting .400 three times with a lifetime batting average of .346 an even .500 OBP in 1895 and nearly 2600 lifetime hits are achievements paralleled by only the greatest the game has known. If it's possible for such a legendary figure to be underrated this would be our claim when it comes to Delahanty; despite being one of the most highly coveted subjects of his era greater accolades are assigned to the likes of Buck Ewing despite Delahanty's far greater numbers. PLEASE NOTE: After receiving a call from a bidder we took a very close-up look at the lower-right corner of the back of the card examining it under bright halogen light at 40X magnification. The whitish line visible in the scan is the result of a light surface wrinkle visible but slight enough that it escaped our initial description. Regardless the blemish does not impact the tremendous visual appeal of the card an key card of one of the most important players of his era.
