Outstanding World Series pitching performances are the stuff of legend as the starter takes the mound against the opposing league's greatest team typically with little experience facing them during the regular season on the game's greatest stage with the most spectators and the greatest amount of pressure. Despite this the starting pitcher occasionally turns in a gem for the ages defying all odds and dominating the opposition. Presented here are ticket stubs from four such performances during which the starting pitcher set new World Series records for strikeouts in a World Series game. The collection includes the following: 1) 1929 World Series Wrigley Field Game 1: Making his first World Series appearance 35-year-old Howard Ehmke takes the mound for the Philadelphia Athletics against Charlie Root despite having won just 7 regular season games. Manager Connie Mack's theory that Ehmke's sidearm delivery would baffle the Cubs proved true as Ehmke pitched a complete game giving up just one run on a late home run by Jimmie Foxx. Ehmke struck out 13 breaking Ed Walsh's World Series record of 12 strikeouts. The stub is in VG/EX condition with mild wear a little excess paper outside the perforation and is accompanied by an 8x10" sheet with an image of Ehmke signed by the pitcher with a COA from James Spence Authentication. 2) 1953 World Series Ebbets Field Game 3: Brooklyn's shining moment in the 1953 Series saw Carl Erskine take the mound against the Yankees at Ebbets Field. Despite being a pitcher's duel with the Yankees' Vic Raschi Erskine would pitch a complete game giving Brooklyn a 3-2 win thanks to an 8th inning Roy Campanella home run. By striking out 14 Yankees Erskine broke Ehmke's World Series record. The ticket stub appears in VG/EX condition with mild wear Erskine's signature gracing the ticket front. 3) 1963 World Series Yankee Stadium Game 1: Yet another Yankees/Dodgers world series this one dominated from the start by the Dodgers who would ultimately sweep the aging Yankees Game 1 began with a masterful performance by Sandy Koufax riding a 4-run Dodgers second inning to a 5-2 victory. Koufax would strike out 15 Yankees in the complete game performance breaking Erskine's ten-year record and notching his first of two victories for the Series. Ticket stub appears in EX condition with some minor surface wear and a speck of paper loss along the perforation on the reverse. 4) 1968 World Series Busch Memorial Stadium Game 1: Few full-season pitching performances in history were greater than that of Bob Gibson's 1968 season. Finishing with a record of 22-9 wiith an insane 1.12 record Gibson threw 13 shutouts striking out 268 and walking just 62 for a WHIP of 0.853. Facing the dominant Detroit Tigers Gibso
