The 1907 World Series pitted the Detroit Tigers against the Chicago Cubs prompting Detroit postcard company A.C. Dietsche to produce sets of black and white photographic postcards of players on the two teams. While the company manufactured additional postcards of Tigers players in 1908 and 1909 the only year they manufactured postcards of the opposing team was 1907. Since the cards were only sold in Detroit and few Tigers fans bought the Chicago Cubs postcards the Cubs issue is far more scarce than the Tigers. A 15-card set highlighted by cards of Hall of Famers Mordecai Brown Frank Chance Johnny Evers and Joe Tinker the cubs issue is rarely found complete and certainly not in higher grades. Presented here is a tremendous 15-card complete set of Dietsche Cubs entirely graded by PSA with just one card grading under VG-EX 4. Attractive and clean the cards in this set represent more than 15% of all the Dietsche Cubs to have been graded by PSA the set is the only example currently registered on PSA's Set Registry and with a weighted GPA of 4.20 ranks #4 of only five complete sets ever to have been registered with PSA. Arguably the set's key card that of pitcher Mordecai Brown grades EX-MT 6 as clean and sharp an example as one is likely to find. Hall of Famer Joe Tinker's card along with cards of Harry Steinfeldt and John Pfeister grade very sharp EX 5. All the other cards with the exception of that of Frank Chance grade VG-EX 4. The Chance card grades GOOD 2 - despite being sharp and consistent with the remainder of the set stuffers from some surface abrasions and paper loss that reduce the technical grade. An outstanding group of postcards very difficult to obtain in any grade and seldom found complete. 15 cards total.
