Easily the most popular and most important set of the gum card era the 1933 Goudey issue is considered one of the "Big Three" sets in card collecting along with the T206 and 1952 Topps sets. Featuring an incredible assortment of Hall of Famers including four different cards of Babe Ruth the set is an incredible challenge with popularity that continues to endure. Presented here is an attractive mixed-grade complete set (minus card #106 of Nap Lajoie) that was assembled by an advanced collector who obtained a collector-grade ungraded set and then slowly upgraded the key cards and many of the commons with graded examples. The set was built over time the collector purchasing cards graded by a variety of companies over the years. As of this writing 125 of the set's 239 cards have been graded. Of those 120 have been graded by PSA nine by SGC five by Beckett (mostly BVG though one BCCG) and one by GAI. A breakdown of the set's condition is as follows: EX/MT: 3%; EX: 8%; VG/EX: 15%; VG: 30%; GOOD: 14%; FAIR: 20%; POOR or Lesser: 10% including a few altered. Of the cards in fair condition a large percentage are marred by ink writing on the reverse courtesy of a young collector adding player positions onto the card backs.
