One of the most incredible advertising pieces we have ever seen. Simply enormous full-color production proof measuring an enormous 68 1/2" x 49 3/4". That's four feet long by five and a half feet high. Presented to us as an afterthought on a recent consignment-gathering trip the piece was too large for us to open in the consignor's living room. It was not until we returned to our offices that we could unfold the piece and witness it in all its glory. This is a stunning pre-production proof of no fewer than seven different promotional displays four of which have a baseball theme. The dominant portion taking up fully two-thirds of the surface area is a giant Casey Stengel endorsement of Gillette Super Speed Razors with an offer of a free Encyclopedia of Baseball with the purchase of the razor for $1.00. Along the outer perimeter of the piece are additional advertising pieces related to the promotion as well as other pieces advertising Gillette's Foamy brand shaving cream a Paper-Mate "Capri" brand pen and an offer for Gillette razor blades. These posters were likely printed and the affixed to die-cut easel-backed cardboard advertising displays for use in retail stores. Initially printed on giant poster sheets and cut down this example may have been an advertising proof that was saved the indignity of being cut down. The result is an absolutely massive presentation brilliant and colorful. Condition appears excellent though edge wear is evident particularly at the top simply because this is difficult to store. We cannot imagine how a collector would display such a massive piece. However we do know that it would look awesome in a frame taking up an entire wall in someone's card room!
