In 1908 Max Carey was in his next-to-last year of a six-year pre-ministerial program at Concordia College playing on the school's baseball team. His career as a ballplayer still ahead of him it was not until 1909 that he joined the South Bend team in the Central League and he was sold to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1910. This 1908 Concordia College yearbook includes a photo of the baseball team which includes Carey (middle row right). The yearbook is well-worn the front page torn away from the book with considerable edge wear tearing and paper loss. The string binding has been well-used. An item like this is valued less for its condition than its rarity; Max Carey's college yearbook is not something frequently seen.
