Beautiful and colorful near-complete set of 1888 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" cards larger versions of the company's standard-sized cards classified today as N29. As is the case with the N29 issue the set features athletes from multiple sports with six baseball players included in the 50-card set. The larger format of the cards - presumably issued in larger packages - permits additional color lithography to the left and right of the cards which makes them extraordinarily attractive among the most beautiful 19th Century issues ever produced. The cards are extremely desirable today. Presented is a near-complete set of 45 cards. Missing just five cards for completion (baseball player and Hall of Famer Buck Ewing boxers Billy Edwards and Jack Havlin lawn tennis player H.W. Slocum Jr and cyclist Willie Harradon) this is one of the finest sets we have encountered. Complete N43 sets - or even near-complete ones - are seldom found in the hobby since the individual cards are very difficult to track down. The entire collection has been graded by PSA. A complete breakdown is as follows: PSA EX-MT 6 (4 cards): Carter East Ray Temple; PSA EX+ 5.5 (2 cards): Ford Murphy; PSA EX 5 (12 cards): Barry Bauer Clarke Crist Fitzgerald Hill LaBlanche Lange Myers Page Paulsen Queckberner; PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 (4 cards): Albert Boyton George Wood; PSA VG-EX 4 (9 cards): Bibby Daly Dwight Ives McCormack O'Connor Rowe Sears Stone; PSA VG+ 3.5 (1 card): Webb; PSA VG 3 (6 cards): Clarke Crocker Cummings McGee John Morrell Ross; PSA GOOD 2 (2 cards): Fogarty Pettit; PSA FR 1.5 (3 cards): Chas. Getzin George Miller; PSA POOR 1 (3 cards): Kerrigan Murphy James Ryan. An extraordinary near-complete set featuring some of the most beautiful cards ever produced. 45 cards total. PLEASE NOTE that the reserve on this collection has been set at $8 000.
