Prewar collectors often debate the merits of its various "holy grail" items to determine an indeterminable answer to a time-honored question: what is the one true "top dog" of the era? The responses invariable stir up some fire as some prewar collectors are immediately drawn to Babe Ruth others to Ty Cobb. Some collectors prefer items related to the 1919 World Series between the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago "Black Sox " while others point to Walter Johnson as the greatest pitcher of the era. While there are certainly fans of other players and teams it is generally safe to say that a collectible that featured Ruth Cobb Johnson and the 1919 White Sox was touching just about all the bases. Enter the 1920 "Boys Who Made Good On The Diamond" booklet from 1920. This lovely lithographic pamphlet contains stories from the boyhoods of a variety of major leaguers including Ruth and Cobb Johnson Speaker Hornsby and more. In addition the piece includes full team photos of the 1919 World Series participants the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox. It is simply an incredible piece of memorabilia. In VG condition the piece does exhibit some moderate wear in places notably along the spine which is separating distinctively (particularly on the cover). Despite this the rarity of the piece coupled with the incredible subject matter make this an extraordinary artifact the only example we have ever handled and one of three that we've seen.
