The 1974 Johnny Pro issue is slightly smaller than the 1973 Baltimore Orioles set from the same company (the cards measure 3 3/4" x 7 1/8"). This 1974 cards feature members of the Philadelphia Phillies the cards numbered according to the player's uniform number. Featuring just 12 subjets the keys to the set are obviously future Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton. We have removed the Schmidt which is graded GEM MINT 10 and are offering it as a separate lot in this auction. This is an extraordinary high-grade near-set of cards an issue no longer graded by PSA due to variances in size that they discovered along the way. A grade breakdown of the cards are as follows: PSA GEM MINT 10 (3 cards): #16 Cash #19 Luzinksi #37 Schueler; PSA MINT 9 (4 cards): #10 Bowa #27 Montanez #32 Carlton (HOF) #41 Londborg; PSA NM-MT 8 (2 cards): #24 Robinson #25 Unser (the card exhibits unfortunate damage in the holder) PSA NM 7 (1 card): #8 Boone; PSA EX-MT 6 (1 card): #22 Anderson. An outstanding high-grade near-set featuring Hall of Famer Steve Carlton as well as several important members of the 1970s powerhouse Phillies teams. 11 cards total.
