Spectacular grouping of three letters sent to Arthur Donovan while he was still in his final year at Boston College fulfilling his academic requirements. Each team sought to discover whether Donovan might be a fit for their team. The letters were saved by Donovan for most of his life and indication that the memories of those early days when he jockeyed for position trying to plan his future remained with him for life. Included in the collection: 1) December 2 1948 Letter from A.R. DeLellis of the Los Angeles Dons: This letter advises Donovan that the Dons are interested in his services at the end of the 1948 season and are interested in determining his level of interest. The letter is folded as if to have been inserted into an envelope and suffers from some very light wrinkling. 2) Decemer 3 1949 Letter from Jim Wells of the Buffalo Bills: This letter advises Donovan that the Bills hold Donovan's draft rights in the All-America Football Conference. The letter advises Donovan that despite the fact that they have not reached out to him with specific information they remain interested in having him play with them and that they would contact him after the Conference All-Star Game later that month. 3) January 24 1950 letter from Steve Owen of the New York Giants to Dennis Meyers of Boston College: This letter advises Myers that Donovan was on the Giants' draft list as well as on the draft list of Baltimore "in the other League " and that he would likely be drafted in June and that donovan need not worrk. THe letter does exhibit some wrinkling and moderate toning but does display well. Of course Donovan wound up with the Baltimore Colts who folded after his rookie season. He then moved to New York and Dallas who became the second Baltimore Colts in 1953. Donovan remained in Baltimore until his retirement in 1961.
