Sensational example of the September 1961 edition of Sport magazine featuring Yankee Hall of Fame centerfielders Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio. The publication is in very good condition with some minor wear at the edges and spine but the all-important cover image quality is extremely strong as are the two signatures. During September of 1961 Mantle and Roger Maris were chasing Babe Ruth"s single-season home run record. Likely produced in August of that year the issue likely went to press as the two players were battling for the crown each closing in on Ruth. This was the biggest story in baseball that summer yet the cover makes no mention of it whatsoever focusing instead on a piece about the greatest Yankee era. Despite this the publication is a classic display piece highly desirable among collectors of both Yankee and Hall of Fame memorabilia.
