Outstanding pen-and-ink illustration by renowned sports artist Lou Darvas winner of the National Cartoonist Society's Sports Cartoon Awards for 1963 and 1967. Darvas one of the most famous sports cartoonists produced art that graced the cover of the Sporting News regularly beginning in 1946. Framed to a finished size of 16" x 25 3/4" this lovely pen-and-ink piece depicts the game's great record holders including Babe Ruth Cy Young Christy Mathewson Lou Gehrig and Grover Alexander along with Harry Stovey (156 steals) Jack Chesbro (41 wins) Johnny Vander Meer (two no-hitters) Bob Feller (348 strikeouts) Walter Johnson (56 consecutive scoreless innings) and Rube Marquard (19 straight wins) with illustrations of Ruth Young Matty Gehrig and Alexander. The piece appears EX-MT with some light age-related toning along with newsroom wear and some light notations typical of its use. An extraordinary piece of original sports art.
