Extremely interesting collection of five news service photos each depicting Ted Williams between 1947 and 1953. Collection includes: 1) Feb 3 1947 International News Photo of Williams with manager (and Hall of Famer) Eddie Collins signing his $70 000 contract for the 1947 season. Photo measures 8 1/2" x 6 5/8" and is in excellent condition with slug attached. 2) November 26 1948 International News Photo of Williams holding a 21-lb. fish he caught in Wisconsin. Photo has been trimmed to approximately 4 1/4" x 7 3/4" and includes handwritten notations paper remnants and a Spanish language photo caption on the reverse. 3) February 12 1949 International News Photo of a smiling Williams fishing rod in hand. 7 1/8" x 9" photo appears in EX condition with significant markings stamps and paper remnants on the reverse along with a Spanish language photo caption explaining that Williams who had signed a three-year contract would retire at the contract's end to devote his life to fishing. 4) July 24 1950 International News photo depicting Williams emerging from a hospital in Boston after receiving elbow surgery. 7 1/8" x 9" photo appears in VG condition with some creasing and discoloration significant notations stamping and soiling on the reverse along with a Spanish language photo caption. 5) August 9 1953 International News photo of Williams in military uniform having returned from Korea for treatment of an ear ailment. Photo measures 7 1/8" x 9" and appears in EX condition with some minor wrinkling several small written notations on the slug at the reverse. It is often said that Ted Williams went from being the greatest hitter in the world to being the greatest fighter pilot in the world to being the greatest fly fisherman in the world. Presented is a collection that depicts the Splendid Splinter in all three capacities. Five photos total.
