An outstanding midgrade near set of 1959 Topps missing just 6 cards for completion. We feel certain that this set was complete at one time. None of the cards that are missing are stars. This set is displayed in binder pages with the cards back to back. One of the binder pages seems to have had the three pockets on the far edge torn out of the binder. The result is that the set is missing cards #57 Cicotte #60 Turley #64 Hearn #64 DeMaestri #67 Lawrence and #70 Kuenn. Obviously none of these three cards are keys to the set.This set was completed by an avid collector in the 1980s and stored carefully in binder pages. The set was assembled before cards could be purchased on the internet which gave the collector fewer options for obtaining cards. That this set is so consistent and the cards so attractive is quite a collecting achievement. The overwhelming majority of these cards have excellent aesthetic appeal with strong color and image quality. For the most part the primary condition issues lie in corner wear as well as the inevitable centering problems inherent to Topps cards. Centering was not considered as important a factor when building sets prior to the advent of the internet simply because there were such fewer options for where to obtain vintage cards. Still this is an outstanding set one of Topps" crowning achievements one of the most popular baseball sets they have produced.
