While our Spring 2017 auction contains a host of extreme rarities no card we feature is more rare than the 1923-24 Exhibit card of Babe Ruth. Between PSA and SGC just seven examples have been graded and we suspect at least one example was crossed from one company to the other without the population report being modified. The rarity of the card is even noted in the Standard Catalog specifying just a handful of examples are known with just one grading higher than this. With so many different cards of Babe Ruth issued by the Exhibit company over the years and so many different varieties available it is difficult to overstate the extreme importance and rarity of the 1923-24 issue which is easily the most rare and valuable of all Ruth's Exhibits. The modest grade of GOOD+ assessed by SGC is due to faint wrinkling across the card front that is visible only when enlarging the scan considerably. Some mild toning and corner creasing is also evident. None of the condition flaws reduce the card's desirability or importance. One of few cards to picture The Babe without a bat in his hand this particular photo was taken just after Ruth joined the Yankees and is the identical image used in his 1921 Exhibit card. Simply a remarkable rarity.
