Occasionally a consignment comes in the door that is so staggeringly exciting that we're rendered speechless (believe it or not). Such was the case with an unassuming express mail package that arrived at our doorstop one afternoon - a simple envelope with no warning or advance notice of the incredible treasure held inside. There is a scene in the film Pulp Fiction where the character played by John Travolta opens his boss' briefcase which he had been contracted to retrieve and is greeted with an unearthly glow. He stares into the briefcase amazed at whatever it is that he is seeing (we never learn what is in the briefcase). We like to imagine this is what it was like in the LOTG office when this envelope was opened: a soft golden glow emanated from the envelope as we gazed inside robbed of our ability to speak as we stared at the wonders contained therein. A complete run of cards featuring the patron saint of Love of the Game Auctions each personally autographed by the great pitcher and even better listener. With all the Mossi cards spread out on a table in the office we felt like he could hear our thoughts channelling directly from our minds through the many many ears in front of us each of which had been touched directly by Mr. Mossi. The condition of the cards of course is irrelevant. What is important here is the amazing quality and completeness of the collection as well as the clarity of the signatures. And of course this lot has not been authenticated by any third-party authenticator because A) Nobody can forge the signature of the great Don Mossi and B) Nobody is qualified to pass judgement on him.
