It is impossible to overstate the impact that Dizzy and Paul Dean had on the St. Louis Cardinals' 1934 season. On August 1 the team was 5 1/2" games back and the team fell as far back as 7 games as late as September 6. Over the next 24 days the Cardinals played 23 games including an astonishing six doubleheaders. The Cardinals won 18 of those final 23 games and one or both Dean brothers pitched in sixteen of the final 24 games. Paul Dean pitched seven games down the stretch including four 9-inning complete games one 11-inning complete game and a 2.2 inning relief appearance. Dizzy Dean pitched nine games including five 9-inning complete games. He pitched nine innings September 10 2.1 innings September 11 and .1 inning September 12. He pitched nine innings September 21 one inning in the first game of a doubleheader September 23 and a third of an inning in the second game. Two days later he pitched a complete game. Two days later he pitched another. Two days after that he pitched a third - 27 innings pitched in six days 39 innings pitched in ten. The Cardinals won the pennant and the World Series in what might be the most incredible pitching performance of all-time. The Dean brothers were American icons with Dizzy Dean probably the second most famous ballplayer in the country next to Babe Ruth. Presented is a collection of Dean-related memorabilia including the following: 1) Dizzy Dean signed 3" x 5" card excellent condition with a bold signature; 2) Paul Dean signed 3" x 5" card even darker with some mild corner wear; 3) Dizzy Dean Falstaff Brewing (post-career) letterhead unused 4) Dizzy and Paul Dean barnstorming exhibition full ticket likely from 1934 - VG condition with some age-related discoloration to one side.
