Spectacular handwritten note to a fan answering the question "Mr. Reese - if this isn't too personal - when did you realize that if Jackie Robinson WON your shortstop job he deserved it regardless of his color?" Reese's well thought-out response: Ron- That's hard to say - I wouldn't have liked if if any one had won my job at S.S. Color would have nothing to do with it. I had a great deal of admiration for Jackie - he was a fine person. Pee Wee Reese's support of Jackie Robinson is well-documented in both oral and written accounts of Robinson's early years with the Dodgers.
